A dog training DVD is usually created and promoted by a professional animal trainer. Having a dog that can “sit!” when told does not make you a professional trainer. The guy (or gal) usually seen on the video is most probably licensed or has gone to an animal/veterinary academy to get the necessary courses for their chosen career path. You can also check on the search engines for good trainers, then look if they have available resources to the public.
If you’re planning to buy one of these videos, ask yourself what is it exactly you want to teach your pet? If he’s starting from scratch, then find a video that will cover the basic obedience commands. If you need to get particular behavior modification tips; then you might have to search the internet for a website that offers an extensive DVD collection. Browse through their offerings per subject and pick out a title that would answer your doggie training needs.
So where do you go for these instructional videos? Since there are very few, strong video shops standing nowadays, the best place to look for DVDs is in the internet. Amazon will have a lot of these instructional DVDs available. Sites that cater specifically for dog lovers usually have a page of product offerings including training resources. You should also click on buy and sell sites for owners who want to give away as a really low price old, second-hand training DVDs - although this may not be the most reliable way to get one.
