Picking Out A Nice Cookware Collection Isn’t That Challenging
If buying a new cookware set is in your near future, then chances are you are thinking about how you can know what is the best deal for all of the pieces and features that you want. One of the biggest factors in choosing cookware is always the price. There is a lot more to choosing the right cookware set than the covers that are available or neat glass lids. If you are looking to get the best deal for your money, or if you are very serious about your cooking, then being practical about your decision is wise.
You first need to think about the type of material that the cookware is made from when choosing. Copper is one of the more expensive materials, but the way that it conducts heat is superior to any of the other materials. The better the conduction of your heat, the more even your food cooks. There is no doubt that you will come across stainless steel cookware that has copper on the bottom. The problem with this type of cookware is that the bottom of the food will cook faster than the rest, making it very difficult to avoiding burning and/or scorching your food. You won’t have very much luck braising your food with a copper reinforced pan.
It is important for you to select some cookware that works to spread that heat out evenly through the pan. Chances are that you’ve had experience with pans with hot spots. Most pans and don’t distribute heat evenly throughout the pan develop these and they simply are hotter spots in the pan. Cookware with even heat distribution is imperative if you are serious about the food you cook. The problem with copper, cast iron, and aluminum cookware is that certain foods will absorb a metal taste and color from the pans, not to mention you will ingest some of the metal that is transferred to the food. Copper will scratch and discolors easily, but every cook should have at least one copper bowl for beating egg whites. Whenever you use a copper bowl to beat your egg whites they whip up to their maximum volume.
There are some relatively inexpensive aluminum cookware sets, but as was talked about above they can have less than desirable reactions with some types of food. The thing about aluminum is the fact that it doesn’t last very long, although there are some types of anodized pans which will hold up a little better. The best choice for aluminum cookware is definitely anodized.
One of the best types of pans for searing a steak is cast-iron, but you need to make sure that you season it every time you cook with it to avoid any type of sticking.
There really isn’t any perfect cookware. Each has its own benefits and drawbacks. One of the best compromises you can make though is probably Stainless steel cookware. You’ll find that it is pretty much in the middle as far as price range goes and heat conductivity. It is durable and cleans easily and will not react with any type of food you cook. One of the better choices in stainless steel is the type that has an inner layer of aluminum all the way up the sides of the pan.
In conclusion, you’re going to need to spend some money if you want some quality cookware, but you don’t necessarily need the most expensive set. A good stainless steel cookware set with a few special pieces such as a non-stick frying pan, a copper bowl, and any other extras you desire will be your best choice.
